Storytime: The worst doctors appointment I ever have had... breathe. This is going to be a hard post to write but one that has been suggested and after talking to a few people about this I know I am not the only one who has been treated badly by doctors and this may help someone after experiencing something similar to know they are not alone. So here it goes:

On the 9th of January, I attended just my routine rheumatology appointment (I go to these appointments because my joints are basically just rubbish so will leave links below if you want to know more) and I saw a doctor I had never seen before.

Background info: for a few days prior to this appointment my neck had become insanely sore and stiff to the point I had very little movement in it.

My physiotherapist said to the doctor just before the appointment about prescribing me some pain relief for it which he instantly shut down.

So, I go into the introduction. He asked me how I had been getting on but anytime I tried to explain anything he would just interrupt and not listen to me. I would say that something hurts, and he would just say "You are not in pain, you need to get it out of your head that you are in pain!" I mean wow thanks I will try that next time.

We then moved onto the examination, he moved my legs quickly up and down to the point I would be like that hurts but yet again... on repeat "you are not in pain, you need to get it out of your head that you’re in pain." He then dug his thumb into the back of my neck to the point I screamed but yet again "You are not in pain you need to get it out of your head that you are in pain!"

By this point I was very much done with this doctor’s appointment I just looked at the floor didn't give him any response because he would only shout at me anyways and I was literally biting my lip trying not to cry like Niamh don't you dare show that he has affected you in any way".

The appointment ended. I was in more pain then when I had walked in and I now felt very small, insignificant and pretty much worthless. Thanks, mate xoxo

I walked straight into my physiotherapists’ room and just burst into tears. I can't really remember what was said here apart from the fact that I am not the first person to have walked out of an appointment with that doctor and to have cried.

This appointment to say the least has really affected me over the last month and if I ever have to see a doctor again it will be way too soon. I have definitely moved on in the fact, it’s happened, it was awful but it's in the past. I was very much so going to make a complaint but at the end of the day who actually cares what a 19-year-old student has to say compared against a doctor, so it would definitely be a waste of time. Writing it down here, however, lots of people will read it and even though I haven’t named him, or the hospital people will still know how awful I was treated by him and I really hope that one day he stumbles across this post LOL (he definitely never will).

So yeah if you are a doctor be nice and if you have had a similar experience, I would love to hear about it, so leave it in the comments below or email or contact me via any social media.

  1. Had an experience very recently with a local rheum who previously misdiagnosed me. He “attempted” to take away my diagnosis. We did argue back and turned into us shouting at each other. The clinic letter contains lies and he is completely misinformed. Some doctors need reassessing of their jobs!!!

  2. With physician house call visits, your doctor will provide any necessary diagnostic testing, a medical diagnosis and a plan of care – this entails on-site medicine administered as shots or IV therapy, medications called in to a nearby pharmacy and delivered to your home or hotel, as well as arranging same-day appointments for x-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds, CT scans and more.
It's far better option than waiting doctor's appointment.
